There’s nothing quite as pop culture-y as good old Bill Shakespeare, and the Australian Shakespeare Company knows that – that’s why on New Years Eve, they’re premiering a colourful new production of As You Like It, a satirical musical comedy.
As You Like It will be at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne until 14 March 2015, accompanied by the Love Letter Labyrinth, a garden maze, and the Shakespeare Hub, a pop up bar.
This is ASC’s 26th Shakespeare Under the Stars in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, and promises to be just as good – perhaps better – than the other 25. As You Like It is a music-filled satire about love and human spirit and joy.
The show will star Louisa Fitzhardinge as the lead of Rosalind, with Charlie Sturgeon as romantic lead Orlando. They are in good company – every summer, the Gardens fill with thousands of locals and visitors for artistic director Glenn Elston’s Shakespeare Under the Stars and family favourite The Wind in the Willows. The ASC has played to over a million people nationally.
“As You Like It has more songs than any other Shakespeare play, and is one of his most playful and deceptively clever satires. We’re going to have way too much fun developing and performing it!”
– Glenn Elston
