Passionate about comedy AND football? Then the Corporate Box is for you
Here at Pop Culture-y, we’re vaguely aware that while we’re busy geeking out over the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, plenty of other nerds are gearing up for one of the most exciting seasons of the year: the AFL season.
Angela Thompson, Gillian English and Vicky Hanlon are three such nerds. They’re two comedy producers and a comedian, so they’ve married their two passions into one incredible podcast: The Corporate Box. Thompson runs Born Lucky Productions and has been an avid Western Bulldogs supporter for years, Hanlon runs Rookie Nights at the Imperial and is a Saint through and through, and stand up English recently jumped ship from Hawthorn to Melbourne so she had a team to back in the Women’s League.
The Corporate Box have recorded two live shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, covering the Women’s League finals and the start of the Men’s League season, and done their footy tips with Jon Faine on 774 ABC Melbourne. Luckily for football and comedy fans alike, they’ve added an extra show next Saturday: a beginner’s guide to the AFL, with special guest and football no-nothing Kirsty Webeck. So whether you’re like us and Kirsty, and can’t tell your Kangaroos from your Cats, or whether you’re like Thompson, English and Hanlon and have very specific opinions on that ludicrous display last night, The Corporate Box has something for everyone.
The Corporate Box has a live recording at the Imperial Hotel on 15 April at 4:45 pm. Tickets are $10 and are available online or at the door. For previous episodes, check out the Corporate Box on iTunes or via your preferred podcast provider.
