Evil geniuses of magic, Penn and Teller cancelled their January tour of Sydney and Brisbane this afternoon, announcing that Teller (the short one) needs further surgery on his back after ongoing heath issues.
It’s the third time in two years that the duo has adjusted their performance schedule for Teller to have surgery. They cancelled appearances in Mississippi in July 2018 and in October this year they took a break from their ongoing production at Las Vegas’s Rio Casino.
The pair were scheduled to appear at the Sydney Opera House and Queensland Performing Arts Centre from January 22-26, their first appearance on Aussie stages.
Teller apologised to the pair’s fans and expressed his disappointment at having to reschedule their trip.
“So sorry to all our fans that we’ve had to cancel our visit to Australia this January (my favorite place in the world). I have to get some urgent surgery on my back. We hope to reschedule very soon,” he said.
Sydney Opera House issued a statement this afternoon saying that ticketholders would be refunded automatically. QPAC’s website says that those who purchased their tickets using credit card would be refunded within 10 business days. They also advised anyone who used cash, paypal or EFTPOS to pay for their tickets to contact the QTIX Box Office on 136 246 to organise the refund.
Although their Australian fans will be disappointed by this news, all staff at the Independent Arts Journal wish Teller a speedy recovery. We hope to see him and Penn together on our shores soon.
