The film adaption of Into The Woods has officially received a release date in America.
Disney recently announced that the film, based on Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical, will arrive in American theatres on December 25th, 2014. Into The Woods debuted in 1986, premiering on Broadway in 1987. It won several Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Book.
It will be directed by Rob Marshall and Dion Beebe recently signed on as director of photography. Beebe has worked with Marshall on the critically acclaimed movies Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago.
The cast includes Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife, Meryl Streep as The Witch and Johnny Depp as The Wolf. Other actors that are reportedly still in talks for roles include Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, James Corden, Megan Hilty, Tracey Ullman and Christine Baranski.
Into The Woods will be shooting in London from this September. The original book writer, James Lapine, will be reworking the script for the screenplay, and Sondheim has written new material for the film (including a duet for the Baker and his Wife, and a song for the Witch).
