Our picks for music to check out this week:
Wye Oak – Shriek
Baltimore natives Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack make up Wye Oak, who are set to release Shriek, their fourth full-length album. After touring their 2011 album Civilian, the duo landed on opposite ends of the country, but the distance has only strengthened their work. A complete narrative of disorientation, loss, renewal, and empowerment, Shriek is released Friday 2nd May 2014 on Merge Records/Inertia.
Meat Puppets: Touring this may
Meat Puppets have just announced two special shows in Melbourne on the 26th and 27th of May, and are set to perform a short acoustic set best known from their performance with Nirvana in their iconic MTV Unplugged set in 1993 on the 27th. On top of that, bassist Cris Kirkwood will be bringing a 30+ piece collection of his art to exhibit at the Ding Dong Lounge in the second Melbourne performance. Finally, the third night will see the band bringing the full Meat Puppets live experience to the Ding Dong Lounge stage. This tour will be their first Australian shows in over 20 years!
They’ll also be hitting up Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth. No excuses!
